I have a couple of Slovenia tips which were so well-thought out, so easy to implement, and for which the results were AMAZING!

Trust me, these Slovenia tips you are about to read will change your holiday – for the better!  I have left nothing to chance, and everything to planning!  Read on and indulge!

The tips

  1. I always think about parking

And it was a good thing I did!  First off, I knew we would have a sleeping Nina in tow, so a parking space in a city apartment was a no-brainer.  I like making life easy where I can, so when searching for accommodation I use the search filter on the booking engine and exclude apartments with no parking on-site.

  2. My wicked packing system

This was the first time we changed accommodation mid-way with two kids!  Of course, I had to come up with a plan to make it easy.  I could not imaging myself packing and unpacking, then packing and unpacking, and then packing and unpacking again!  This is how I managed with our four luggages:
    Bag A – clothes for days 1-3 (apartment 1)
    Bag B – clothes for days 3-7 (apartment 2)
Bag C & D – items to use on all days
Can you imagine the difference this tactic made throughout our stay?  I must admit, I felt triumphant when I was faced with packing or unpacking and did not have all of our luggages to go through!

  3. The ULTIMATE duffel-type luggage tip

We have two wheeled duffel bags which are great because they are ultra-light and yet so roomy.  The only issue with these bags is that the soft sides and lack of structure contribute to messiness and wrinkled clothing.  Here is what I did to avoid this and still get the best out of our luggage-type duffel:
    i) I packed both duffel luggages
ii) I took two lilos and inflated them halfway
iii) I placed each individual lilo in a garbage bag (for hygiene purposes)
iiii) I inserted the lilo (inside the garbage bag) into the luggages, and inflated/deflated as required until the luggage was nicely full with no space for the contents to move freely.

  4. I packed multiple folding bags

Folding bags are my lifesaver.  In Slovenia, I had one attached to the pushchair at all times.  Another one was always in my handbag.  They’re perfect for use on the go – be it for groceries, snacks, souvenirs – anything you can think of!

  5. Check the weather

I always check the weather before packing.  When doing my Slovenia research it came to light that the weather (although it was summer) would be warm one minute, rain the next.  I packed a variety of clothes including short sleeves and long, cardigans, raincoats and light jackets.  I also checked the weather throughout our trip.  We switched plans according to the weather in the particular location and managed to avoid getting caught in thunderstorms!

  6. I prepared ‘just-in-case’ bags to go in the car

Out of all the Slovenia tips listed here, this is the most handy for the nature of the country.
I loved the cool Slovenian weather, but it was very unpredictable!  I wanted to be prepared for whatever came our way, so I prepared separate bags to leave in the car, just in case:
Rain bag – raincoats, umbrellas, spare socks
Beach bag – beach towels, swimsuits, armbands
‘It’s chilly’ bag – jackets, cardigans, long trousers
I also packed a few more toys to be able to entertain Nina with something different if she got bored in a restaurant.

  7. Breakfast on the go

On the days we had to leave super early, we stopped at a nearby supermarket and bought ready-made rolls and sandwiches.  They were fresh and delicious.  We even found a few healthy options!

  8. ‘Fun packs’ for Nina

If you haven’t seen my fun packs on the Mama Manual Facebook page yet – then I suggest you check them out!  Forget about stressing on airplane rides, lunches or dinners with these babies!
