This year, I finally made it a point to have a summer bucket list.
I find that the best time of year to do this is when you’re craving the season. Bang in the middle of summer, if you had to ask me for an idea of something fun to do, I’d probably have to think hard and long because inspiration is hard to come by then (for me at least).

I don’t know about you, but even though summer is long (especially in Malta!), it goes by so quickly that I feel like I haven’t made the best of it.

So this year, I’m being intentional. I’ve come up with a list of things that I really want to do and compiled a fun summer bucket list, and if I don’t manage to tick off all of them, at the least I want to tick off most.

Some of the things on my summer bucket list are simple. Some are more elaborate. Some are specific, and others are generic.
Let me just dive in.

My 2023 summer bucket list

  1. Enjoy a nightime beach cookout.
  2. Go fishing at sunset and munch on traditional ‘hobz biz-zejt’.
  3. Build a huge sandcastle as a family.
  4. Barbecue on the terrace regularly.
  5. Have a ‘can of beer’ or ‘glass of wine’ date night on the terrace at least once a week when the kids are in bed.
  6. Go for a night hike.
  7. Sleepover on the boat at least 3 times.
  8. Organise a cocktail afternoon party with friends out on the terrace.
  9. Make nice cream.
  10. Organise a night picnic.
  11. Organise a beach BBQ.
  12. Attend a free, local, outdoor concert.
  13. Go beach hopping for a day in Gozo (or sleep over!)
  14. Go swim in a beach we’ve never been to.
  15. Enjoy dinner on the beach and a sunset dip.
  16. Wake up early for a sunrise swim and have breakfast on the beach.
  17. Go for a quick dip after my morning walk a few times (mid-week).
  18. Go night swimming.
  19. Put together a summer playlist.
  20. Watch the fireworks.
  21. Go to a local festa.
  22. Eat a traditional ‘hobza biz-zejt’ with chips drenched in mayonnaise 😂 (at the beach of course).
  23. Go for a walk at sunset on one of the many seaside promenades.
  24. Have an outdoor family game night.
  25. Go on a staycation.
  26. Try a new food.
  27. Go for after-work swims.
  28. Go stargazing.
  29. Pick up a pizza and eat it by the beach in the evening.
  30. Make a summer scrapbook with all the memories.

I’m going to print this out and keep it handy, so I can plan to make these things happen. I wonder how many I’ll be able to check off by the end of summer? This is one thing that will be making an appearance on my Instagram – that will help keep me accountable!

Are you putting together your own summer bucket list? I hope I’ve inspired you to make memories count even more than ever this summer!

Love,

Nakita xxx
