Happy new year! 🥳
Like every year, I’ve put together a list of my top 10 for 2020 blog posts. This year, the influence of covid and lockdown was pretty clear in the types of content mums were reading, but topics like cooking, organising and shopping never go out of fashion!
As always, I’m going to count down the most popular posts in terms of views going from number 10 to number one.
And the winners are…
10. 20 recipes with 5 ingredients or less
Busy mums just don’t have the time to track down a long list of exotic ingredients every time we need to get dinner on the table, so I put together a list of dishes from salmon to risotto and bean burgers with a literal handful of ingredients.
Why I published this blog post: In April, we were all pretty overwhelmed with the kids at home and quarantining, so it was the perfect time to simplify dinner.
9. Our Covid-19 schedule
In May, I shared the covid-19 schedule my family had been following to give our days some structure and ensure we get everything done – with plenty of time for play, too! Striking that balance between productivity and quality of life can be so tricky!
Why I published this blog post: After a few weeks of isolation, I realised that we really do work so much better with routines!
8. How to: 3 homemade meals in 20 minutes
I love homemade food but don’t always have a lot of time for it, so I have a few favourites I go to when I’m in a rush. In February, I shared how I make these 3 magical meals, along with some tips for getting your cooking done faster in #8 in my top 10 for 2020.
Why I published this blog post: Getting good, real food on the table quickly is every mum’s dream, right?
7. Non-stick is making you sick: the no-fuss guide to non-toxic cookware
In the spirit of making 2020 the year of health, I took a look at why non-stick pans are so bad for you and which materials are safer for your family.
Why I published this blog post: I felt like I was going to lose my mind when I started looking for non-toxic cookware. There was so much conflicting info online, so I thought it would be helpful to try to make sense of it all.
6. Review: Crock-Pot Duraceramic 6L Saute
This year saw the release of a new Crock-Pot model, the Duraceramic 6L Saute, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it as my older one had been showing signs of wear. Plus, the new version has a non-toxic material that’s a huge selling point in my book. Spoiler alert: I love this model and had to really reach to find fault with it.
Why I published this blog post: My crock pot obsession has earned me quite the reputation, and a lot of readers had been asking me to review this one.
5. Storage ideas: What I store where
Not sure where to keep handbags, cleaning products, clothes, appliances, and toys? This post from March, #5 in my top 10 for 2020, has you covered!
Why I published this blog post: I get a lot of DMs and emails from you asking where I store all manner of items, so I wanted to address some of the most popular requests and help you get your homes sorted!
4. How to keep your house clean for longer
One of the worst parts of finding the time to clean your house is how quickly it all seems to be undone. If you’re tired of watching the results of your cleaning efforts vanish in a snap, try these tips to keep things from getting out of control.
Why I published this blog post: By May, we were all feeling the effects of too much time cooped up inside, so I wanted to share the key to a clearer house and hopefully a clearer mind as well!
3. How I budget and split my wage
I basically taught myself how to budget, and I’ve come up with a system that seems to work well for a lot of families. If you don’t have a structured approach to budgeting, here’s a good starting point.
Why I published this blog post: The lockdown gave us all plenty of time to sit down and overhaul our budgets and adopt more productive habits – and it’s far easier to get used to a new system when you’re not running all over town making impulse buys!
2. Home with the kids: 14 ways to have a better day
Once the novelty of lockdown wore off, a lot of us mums had that “oh no!” moment where we realised that it’s really, really hard to get everything done around the house while keeping our little ones happy and staying cool in the face of a scary pandemic.
Why I published this blog post: Well, I guess this one is self-explanatory. We all got that quality family time we longed for pre-coronavirus this spring, and then some!
1. How to Choose the Right Robot Vacuum/Mop
And here it is, the #1 post in my top 10 for 2020. If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that having a clean floor is a big priority for so many mums out there! There are lots of cool models out there at a reasonable price, so I explained what to focus on when choosing one.
Why I published this blog post: I love my robot vacuum and always recommend one to mums like me who are tired of sweeping and mopping only to find bits of debris on the floor five minutes later. The first question I always get when I suggest this is “Which one should I get?”, so here’s the answer!
2020 was a year we’ll never forget, there’s no question about it. And while it changed our lives in so many ways, I hope all of us can find some positives from this year to hold onto when we’re looking back at the year in the future.
