This review for the Crock-Pot Duraceramic 6L Sauté has been requested for a few weeks now – so here goes my experience using this slow cooker, along with my genuine feedback.

2020 kicked off with a spanking new Crock-Pot. I’ve been an avid slow cooker aficionado for a few years now, and this model is my third.

I went from the Crock-Pot 5.7L digital model, to the Crock-Pot 5.6L multicooker (I’d reviewed it here), to the Crock-Pot Duraceramic 6L Sauté.

The main reason I upgraded to this model was that my older one was a little worse for wear after using it countless, countless times, and I wanted to opt for a non-toxic material when it came to the pot itself.

Aesthetics & build

If you know me at all you know I like to keep my countertops clutter-free, but on the other hand I need to have the tools I use frequently at hand to optimise efficiency. So, my best bet is to try and strike a balance.

Luckily, the Crock-Pot Duraceramic 6L Sauté is stunning. To my knowledge, there does not exist another slow cooker model which looks as good as this one. The fact that it is white works a treat for me, seeing as I have a white kitchen. It has been designed to look impeccably sleek; even though it is a 6L slow cooker it is surprisingly small. The shape of the inner pot as well as the outer device itself have been well devised to keep the whole unit looking exceptionally compacy.

The Crock-Pot feels solid, yet is not heavy at all. The pot is extremely light, which is a bonus, as my one certainly gets a lot of trips to the counter, sink, fridge or dishwasher!

The pot

Whilst we’re on topic, let’s dive into more detail about the pot.

As you may have gathered, it is dishwasher-safe. Although it is very easy to clean by hand too.

After doing my research, I learnt that DuraCeramic is a ceramic coating made from oxygen and silcone. So not only is it toxin-free, but it is also environmentally friendly. DuraCeramic claims to be extremely reliable and 4 times more durable than a traditional non-stick. It is scratch, flake and peel resistant and PTFE/PFOA free.

Here’s what I love the most about this pot: you can use it on your hob, and in your oven. The lid is also-oven safe. The pot can be safely used on any hob type: be it electric, gas, or induction.

The only drawback, is that the shape of the pot is not ideal to make lasagne. I cannot fit two whole chicken in there (yep, I used to do that 😂), and there’s a little less room in my fridge because of shape. A rectangular shape is obviously preferable.

Ease of use

The only thing that took more than 10 seconds to figure out was why I had knobs on my Crock-Pot when I was SURE it was digital.

Once I plugged it in and turned it on, a digital display appeared in the centre of the buttons! Ta-da!

The Crock-Pot Duraceramic 6L Sauté is actually super easy to use. One knob is to select your cooking temperature – high or low, and the other one is for your cooking time. It automatically switches to keep warm when done.

The remaining cooking time is clearly displayed, so you can know exactly where it’s at with a quick glance.

Functionality

The (lightweight) pot being able to go from my stovetop to sear my meat, or sauté my veg, as well as into my oven is a winner in my books!

I’ve always been a huge proponent of aiding your slow cooker with a few minutes of sautéeing. This helps bring out and maximise the flavour of your recipe. It was definitely one of the features I wanted in my slow cooker.

The going into the oven part was unexpected – yet I was gleeful to discover that I could make my whole chicken, complete with the grilling part in less time than you can say ‘slow cook’! Well, not really, haha, but it was so, so simple!
If you want to see how – I’ve got a video on YouTube.

The slow cooking function is no different from all the other slow cookers I’ve owned – cooks food to perfection.

Conclusion

Honestly, this Crock-Pot has got very little to fault. I find myself trying hard to fault it, and even then, it feels like I have to try really hard to find proper things I really dislike. I’ve already mentioned the shape of the pot, and that is the only disadvantage I can find. And possibly the short cable, which I was fine with at home, but might be a little inconvenient if your electricity socket is a little far away.

It is a mean little machine. The versatility of the pot and the DuraCeramic itself is a win for me. I wonder what Crock-Pot will come up with next – this one is hard to beat!
