Cooking up delicious homemade meals while juggling a busy schedule is no small feat, but fear not – I’ve got your back! In this blog post, we’ll dive into 10 realistic ways working moms can whip up mouthwatering dishes without adding extra stress to their plates. Yep, pun intended! Let’s sprinkle some ‘delicious homemade meals’ magic right away. Read below to get started!

1. Double Up on Easier Days:

Ever consider cooking double on those less hectic days? Consider this a true time investment. Whip up a double (or triple!) batch of whatever recipe you’re making for dinner and freeze the extras. Trust me; your future self will thank you on those crazy days when time is a precious commodity.

2. Freezer Meals to the Rescue:

The freezer is your best friend. Once you’re doubling meals on the ‘easier’ days, you can start assigning freezer meals to those days when you have absolutely no time to cook.

3. Be Clever with the Sides:

Let’s not forget the power of clever sides. Pairing a simple main dish with an easy side can complete your meal without breaking a sweat. Think roasted veggies (that can also be batched) or easy carbs (oven fries, boiled potato, air fryer baby potatoes, toasted naan etc). Make use of frozen veggies to cut down on prep time, and if you have one: your air fryer, which makes all vegetables taste divine (and cooks really quickly too)

4. Time: How Much Do You Really Have?

Time is a sneaky character, and we need to outsmart it. Take a moment to realistically assess how much time you have on any given day. Opt for freezer meals on those days when you have no time to cook, quicker recipes on busier nights and save the more elaborate recipes for the weekends. I have an easy framework packed with ideas for you to do this effortlessly, and I teach it here.

5. Keep It Simple, Supermom:

Embrace the beauty of simplicity. Quick, easy, and tasty should be your mantra. Find recipes with minimal ingredients and steps – your taste buds won’t know the difference.

6. Plan Ahead (I can help you with this!):

Planning is the secret sauce to stress-free meal times. And a great meal plan is one that respects your time, both in terms of what you’re cooking, and in terms of when you’re cooking it. This way, you can be sure that the meal plan you come up with is one you can follow through with.
Want to learn how to do this in 3 easy steps? Join our meal planning challenge called the Easy Home Cooked Dinners challenge, and I’ll teach you how over 3 days (in just 20 minutes a day!). Sign up here.

7. Embrace One-Pot Wonders:

Simplify your life with one-pot wonders. Whether it’s a hearty chili or a flavorful stir-fry, these dishes minimize the mess and maximize the taste. Plus, who wouldn’t love fewer dishes to wash?

8. Get Creative with Leftovers:

Turn yesterday’s dinner into today’s masterpiece. Reinvent leftovers by incorporating them into new dishes. Roast chicken becomes a vibrant salad, and roasted veg transforms into a frittata. There are multiple ways you can re-invent leftovers, and once you’re onboard with this, you can plan to make more of what you’re making so you can re-invent the next day!

9. Take those shortcuts:

Just because you’re cooking at home does not mean you’re making everything from scratch. You decide what works best for you. I make my pies using store-bought dough. If I’m tight on time, I’ll use frozen vegetables. You can bet I’m buying my cheese readily-grated. Just this weekend, we were hosting, and I knew I’d already be overworked so I went ahead and bought the mushrooms readily sliced. You can make it as easy as YOU want.

10. Invest in Time-Saving Kitchen Gadgets:

Let technology be your kitchen ally. Consider investing in time-saving gadgets like a slow cooker, a good-quality food processor, a mini-chopper to keep close by, or an air fryer. These tools can be game-changers for busy moms on a mission to create quick, scrumptious meals.

PS: If you want to make cooking at home realistic for you as a busy working mum, it all starts with the planning.
Planning to choose easy recipes that take little time
Planning to choose recipes that you have time to make on the day you’ve assigned them to
Planning to not overplan on the days when time is tight
And…putting together a meal plan quickly, and having a meal plan that WORKS FOR YOU
I am excited to be teaching all this as from Monday. My meal planning challenge, the ‘Easy Home Cooked Dinners’ challenge is what you need. It just takes 3 days, and 20 minutes a day, and I will teach you how to do it in 3 easy steps.
